Irish Mist

Drove past Lough Scur in the morning and the mist was clinging around however on driving past a couple of hours later the sun was burning through the cloud a bit.

The other side of Lough Scur when the sky brightened further to reflect the trees nicely in the water.

Cloudy reflections

Liked the reflection of the clouds in the calm mirror like water of Lough Scur, County Letrim.

Quiet day on Achil Island

These sheep must have seen some wild days on Achil. The sea was nice and calm when we visited however there was still a nice wee swell on the rocks below.

The long and winding road is a wee single track highway with state of the art crash barriers in the shape of small stones to protect your car from the drops as seen below. Its hard not to look off the road when you are going around this lovely island all the same. As you can see the road is not in rush hour!

Achil Island

Achil Island, Co Mayo nice part at the start of Atlantic Drive. A very rugged Island which edges out into the Atlantic Ocean. Great drive and some nice areas to walk. More pictures of the cliffs on the island to follow.

Croagh Patrick

The National Famine monument at Murrisk with Croagh Patrick in the background. A lovely part of the world just outside Westport in the County of Mayo. This coffin ship with the skeletons jumping from it is set in a lovely garden area with a great view out to Clew bay.

Just the luck that the rain was about to fall however it did add to the sky view.

Maybe one of these visits to Ireland I will climb this one as the views out to the bay are amazing.

At rest on Lough Talt

A nice peaceful October evening on Lough Talt in County Sligo. This Lough was looking good on Sunday 13th October. It is about 200 acres in size and located at the foot of the Ox mountains between Tubbercurry and Bunneyconnellan.

Beaky

Liked this raptor! Wouldn't fancy being swooped on by this one, great to see them soaring at the wildlife centre.

Caption competition

A few good captions could come with this one of the 2 penguins at Edinburgh Zoo.

Who turned the heater off?

This is a sweeping view of the countryside from Haddington up to the Lammermuir Hills. Haddington Golf course is trapped between the bright oil seed rape and the old TV transmitter with the hills sprawling into the distance..

Nice summer shot however see how things change when the heating gets turned down .......

Flat field, no golf and the hills are almost hidden in the cold atmosphere.

Inland and costal water

A nice view from the coast looking down from Malin Head

Meanwhile down the country near to Burtonport the clouds provide a nice reflection.

On safari

These big beasts were at Blair Drummond and had clearly been using the horn for digging. Wouldn't fancy a butt from that one!

Watch out for the jags

This wee hover fly type beastie tending to the thistle. Its friend is approaching from the right to join the party.

Killala

This is a great wee place to go on a nice summer evening. Killala pier hosts a small number of fishing boats that take to the Atlantic ocean in the search for fish. The sand bank in the distance is the way out to sea. Its quite nice to sit with a rod and fish off the side of the pier and see what takes the bait.

Loch Conn

The sun goes down on Loch Conn on the banks of Knockmore, Co Mayo. A boat at rest and in the distance there are 2 fishermen stood on a small boat.

14,000 acres in size it is surrounded by lots of nice view points. One not to be missed is that of the Pontoon Bridge Hotel. The hotel overlooks the lake with the restaurant area having a lovely glazed area looking out over the water.

The River Moy

The river Moy as she flows through Ballina in the County of Mayo. This river is a great river and subject to a few photos during my visits. This one is nice and atmospheric with the early morning frost giving a nice feel to the water line. St Muredach's Cathedral can be seen in the distance.

The famous Ridge Pool complete with fishermen up to their waist in the water. 'Big Jack' the gentleman (Jack Charlton) is to be seen a bit here. I had the fortune of meeting the man when he was in Ballina for Heritage day a good few years back now and he took time out with the oldest signing an Irish top.

Cottage by the sea

A visit to County Donegal and we found this nice wee beach. Would be a great wee cottage given the changing view of the sea on a daily basis every time the curtains are opened. The ruin at the top of the hill would make a nice wee construction project!

Prepare for winter

The turf from the 'bog' is sitting ready to be taken to the turf shed.

The guys filling the trailer and saving the 'sods' of turf from the 'bog'.

The final journey a nice trailer load of turf for the winter. A great smell and a great heat when this stuff burns on the open file or heats up the kitchen on the range.

Power

The coast of East Lothian as the sun goes down. Cockenzie power station in the background, the sun is fading but the wave power certainly isn't.

East Fortune race track

 Duncan Baillie last season.

Nice wee Triumph, mine won't be going on the track thats for sure!

Some fun with the slider on the track.

Hot disc

Its good watching these machines make the best of the local roads and this machine was certainly getting pushed to its limits. The front brake discs are a nice shade of hot orange! Click on the pic to get a closer look.

You've been framed

The swan and boat were just looking for something different. A wee framed setting.

Achil Island

Achil Island is an ideal place in the summer or on a clear crisp winter day. The scenes as you drive around Atlantic Drive are spectacular. Make sure your brakes are working before you go as the hills around the cliffs are great!

Another day done

End of another day on the rugged Mayo coast line.

Almost there

The calm by the shore that can quickly change when the storm arrives.

Poser

A nice day to be had at Safari. The wild cats section is always good and the hope of getting a nice pic is always there. Wouldn't fancy one of them getting a hold of you!

MX racing

Few and far between things are free these days however a good days racing can be had in the fields at Lochhouses near Dunbar in the winter months. You get right beside the track which in essence is a field with jumps and some nice sweeping and some tight bends set up to challenge the riders of all ages.
Well worth a visit and run by the Melville motorcycle club.

River Moy

The River Moy as she flows calmly through the town of Ballina, Co Mayo.

There is nothing better than sitting by the side of this river on a sunny day watching as the Salmon take to the fly. This picture is taken just after the world renowned Ridge Pool and Cathedral beats which flow through the town.

The Salmon Festival takes places on a yearly basis and brings heritage day to town. Heaven with the smell of burning sods of turf on the street and the sweet smell of Poteen in the air as the old school take to making it for the passers by to see.

Live music on each street corner is also a sight to see. Well worth a visit if you are ever in that fine part of the world.

Great firework display ends the festival which is also set on the banks of the Cathedral beat.

Shake your head

This duck certainly shook their head reminds me of dogs in the water shaking themselves.

Answers on a post card please

Unsure what this is however wanted to get close enough to get a better look.

A step back in time

Have a couple of exposures of this however prefer the slightly dark version to highlight the shine. Great  finnish quality on the Royal Enfield.
